Venture Concept No. 2

Opportunity  The opportunity that I have identified is that Gainesville does not offer any type of international food. The customers would be anyone who likes international food and especially international people living in Gainesville who have the need to eat some different food.  Innovation The food hall would contain about 5 to 6 restaurants. The selling would depend on which restaurant, but about $25 per meal. Venture Concept I think that customers would switch to this opportunity because Gainesville contains a lot of international people living there and having the opportunity to eat food from their country would be the best thing for them. The competitors would be other restaurants from cities around Gainesville, and also the restaurants in Gainesville Three Minor Elements -The most valuable tool is the reading list that we create for each client. -Having more than one specific food, and in different cities  - This company will be a success for me next.

Your Exit Strategy

1) Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children? I intend to make a big business, and then leave it to my family. And everyone in my family will be able to help and continue the business. I intend to make it a family business, only family will be able to run it. 2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy? I think it is the best strategy that I found and it is the one that I trust the most because people that I trust will help. 3) How do you think your exit strategy has influenced the other decisions you've made in your concept? For instance, has it influenced how you have identified an opportunity? Has it influenced your growth intentions or how you plan to acquire and use resources? No, I do not think that this strategy c...

Reading Reflection No. 3

What was the general theme or argument of the book?  Daniel Kahneman's "Thinking, Quick and Slow"  The general point around this book is that you have in mind two mechanisms that continuously battle for decision power.  How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? This book helped me more financially when learning about the two main mechanisms that conflict with my decision making.  If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve? The exercise would have many problems that students would have to solve thinking fast. What was your biggest surprise or aha moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations? Just learning to not overthink too much.

Celebrating Failure

1) Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time. I failed twice on my class of microeconomics, I failed both midterms. 2) Tell us what you learned from it. I honestly learned that it is okay to fail, I always wanted to get good grades, and I used to worry too much about it. I mean I think that it is important to get good grades, but worry too much about it is not a good thing. 3) Reflect, in general, on what you think about failure. Failure is hard, isn't it? It's embarrassing, sure, but it also means that we have to change something about ourselves. Talk about how you handle failure (emotionally, behaviorally). Finally, talk about how this class has changed your perspective on failure -- are you more likely to take a risk now than you were just a few months ago? Failure is ha...

What's Next?

Existing Market. Step 1: The next step would be to try out the product. Step 2: I talked to three customers about the product, and they all said that the best thing to do now is to make the idea public. Step 3: Based on the customer's feedback that I have received from the customers, the idea will be successful. I see my venture as something that will keep on rising over time. I say this in the way it grows bigger and bigger, at one point possibly even internationally. New Market Step 1: I was targeting mostly international people, but having people from the United States there would be a great idea as well. Step 2: The idea would give other people the opportunity to try different types of food. Step 3: I interviewed two people that have the same need, and they said that social media would be the best way to advertise the project.  Step 4:  I learned that targeting different customers can be good sometimes. I was shocked to see all the good th...

I think that it was very helpful to get those feedbacks, I think that it helps a lot. 3)  What did you change, based on the feedback? Changed the background, even though it is not the best background that I had. Also, I put my phone still somewhere.

Reading Reflection No. 2

Mindset by Carol S. Dweck 1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? Researching about a belief about our midset. 2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? I think that it connects with having a positive mindset and believing in yourself when doing anything in your life. 3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve? Design a project for the business idea that we had. 4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations? I think that was interesting when it said that our mindset controls what we are on our day-to-day.

Growing Your Social Capital

Domain Expert: Lucas is an entrepreneur that started his business with the help of his parents and friends. He also created an app and a webpage to help advertise his business idea. He started creating this idea since he was in high school and worked on this project for a long time. Market Expert: I interview a girl that sells clothes. She makes the clothes herself. She is been making clothes for over 15 years now. I met this person through my mom, she actually buys clothes from her. In this meeting, she gave me some advice on how to pursue my business idea.  Industry Supplier: I interviewed someone that works for a shoe company. It is a very popular company in Brazil, so they have to produce a massive number of shoes. I met this person through a friend that studied with him in High School. In this meeting, he gave me some advice as well and what I would see in the future, maybe some struggles.   Reflection:  This showed me that I need to get ...

Idea Napkin No. 2

You  I am a sophomore at the University of Florida, majoring in sports management. I am an international student having an idea that will help all the other international students, maybe helping them to provide their unmet needs. What are you offering to customers? I am offering a food hall where American or international people that lives in Gainesville can find food from other countries. It meets the need of a lot of students and people that live in Gainesville, but especially people from other countries that come to live in Gainesville, Florida. Who are you offering it to? I am offering to everyone who likes food from other countries and international people that have the need for having international restaurants in Gainesville, Florida. Why do you care? I am an international student living in Gainesville, Florida, so I understand how hard it is to not have international restaurants there. What are your core competencies?  I am a hard worker that cares a lot ab...

Create a Customer Avatar

An unmet need that I found was the lack of international food in Gainesville, Florida. Gainesville is a college town where a lot of international people come to study or even just to leave there, but unfortunately, Gainesville does not provide them with food from their country. Gainesville also does not have anywhere where they can buy food to cook. There is not a specific type of customer. The customers will be from all over the world, so I cannot imagine only one type. What I have in common with the customers is that I am from another country and I live in Gainesville, I have the same need.

What's Your Secret Sauce?

1) Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique. What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list. I think that I have great communication skills, time management, a strong work ethic, always prepare for whatever comes, and down for anything. I personally think that everything that I mentioned I learned from playing sports. I always had to have all those to be successful in sports. 2) Interview the five people who know you the best. Ask them what they think makes you different -- remember, focus on your knowledge, skills, abilities, emotions -- in other words, your human capital. Try to stay away from discussing your other types of capital (such as who you know). Record each interview. In your post, please post each interview, as well as a two-three sentence summary of each interview, explaining what your key takeaways are. There is no time limit on these recordings. As long as you cover the information a...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

Interviews: I interviewed three students from UF. Begin with alternative evaluation: according to these students, the main factor would be the location of the restaurant. All three students do not have a car or have someone that would drive to another city only to eat international food. Also, cost is an important factor. Most of them will not spend a lot of money just to eat international food, they would prefer to buy food and cook it if the restaurant is too expensive. The quality of food also matters. That is a thing that matters to everyone, no one likes to pay to eat something that is not good. How/where do they buy: They are most likely to go to the restaurant to eat it. International restaurants usually do not deliver, so the only way to eat is by going to the place. Post-purchase evaluation: The thing that matters the most for these students is if the purchase was worth it. They do not care if they pay a little too much, what matters was if the money that they spent was ...

1)  Tenaciousness is a competency.  What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course? The behaviors that I have used to keep up with the requirements of this course are time management and organization. I think that is the main behavior to be successful in this course.   2)  Tenaciousness is also about attitude.  Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this? I think that what pulled me through was thinking about the end, giving up would not make things easier, it would just make things harder for me, especially in the future. I think just having that mindset will help you to push through whatever is going on.  3)  Three tips.  What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fosterin...

Reading Reflection No. 1

The Wright Brothers , David McCullough 1) You read about an entrepreneur: What surprised you the most? They were never married.   What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? I most admired them how their obsession started when their father gave them like a helicopter toy.  What about the entrepreneur did you  least  admire? They flew together only one time Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it? Some of the airplanes flew only one time. They kept going, that never stopped them from trying harder.  2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?  Work together, trying to be as good as possible. Never give up even when things did not work out the way that they wanted.  3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you. Nothing was really confusing to me. I just do not understand why they never married, but that is something personal,...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Pick a segment: Demographics of international people at any age living in Gainesville, Florida, having the need for international restaurants close to home.  Interviews:  Interview 1: My first interview was with a student at the University of Florida from Brazil. It was just as I expected, he has the need that every other international people have. He said that it is really hard for him to adapt to the food, especially when he has to drive far away just to eat.  Interview 2: I interviewed another student at the University of Florida from China. He also said that it was really hard for him to adapt to the food, even though Gainesville has Chinese food, he said that it is not the same, it is not as good.  Interviewed 3: I interviewed just someone at Walmart, she is from the United States. She did not realize that Gainesville had that many international people living there, and she also did not realize that Gainesville does not have much international food. She d...

Idea Napkin No. 1

Me: I am a sports management major. Personally, I am really good at time management. I always played sports, since I was 5 years old, so from a young age, I had to learn how to manage my time effectively so I could finish everything on time. So if I were to start a business right now, I would know and would work however many hours I needed to be done with the work.  What are you offering to customers: I am offering international restaurants with food from all over the world in Gainesville Florida. It will be like a food hall, a street with only international restaurants.  Who are you offering it to: I am offering to everyone who likes international food. I think that will be mostly international people who live in Gainesville Florida, but anyone who likes it can come and eat.  Why do they care: I know for my own experience how hard it is to adapt with new food, and Gainesville has many international people living there. Some people cannot even adapt to food and have ...

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Opportunity: lack of international food in Gainesville, FL. There are a lot of international people living in Gainesville, but still, it is really hard to find food from another country.  Interviews Lucas, University of Florida: He said that he did not know about the need, he is from America, so he does not really eat international food.  Andrew, University of Florida: He said that he does like some international food, but he does not have the need to eat it, so he does not have a problem with it. He also does not think that it is important to have international food here.  Joseph, University of Florida: He has the same need, but he has a car, so every time that he wants to eat different food, he drives wherever they have it. Chris, University of Florida: He said that he also did not realize that there are not many international restaurants in Gainesville, FL. He does not eat international food because his favorite food is burgers, so he does not have the same nee...

Solving The Problem

The opportunity would provide many business opportunities for entrepreneurs. I realized that there are more people with the need, so that would be a good opportunity for opening a business in Gainesville. My opportunity involves opening Brazilian restaurants in Gainesville Florida. There are many Brazilian people living in Gainesville, and that would satisfy them. The good thing about this idea is that it is not only for Brazilian people that live in Gainesville, but it is also for all people that like Brazilian food. I think that it is a great opportunity for business. I could talk to some people that have the same need and with that will bring more people together to help to open the business.

Testing the Hypothesis

The opportunity that I'm pursuing is the problem of the lack of international restaurants in Gainesville in Florida. The who: Brazilian people in Gainesville, people who likes Brazilian food. The what: Not being able to eat Brazilian food. The why: No convenient Brazilian restaurant located near Gainesville. Testing the who: I think that not only Brazilian people in Gainesville have the need, but also everyone that likes Brazilian food. Testing the what: Finding a way to open Brazilian restaurants in Gainesville. Testing the why: Driving to other cities to be able to eat Brazilian food. Interview 1: I interviewed someone from Brazil that lives in Gainesville, and she said that she has the same problem. Her opinion is that it is crazy that there is no Brazilian restaurant in Gainesville with the number of Brazilian living here. It is a need that she experiences regularly because she just came to the United States and she is trying to adapt to American food. Interview 2:...

Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Opportunity 1: Climate Change is Causing More Natural Disasters https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666 The food prices are rising as the weather becomes hot. Climate change can create random storms and flooding. When those disasters happen, there is a big loss for the economy in the country. There are some places in the country that has more losses than others. A good example is Florida. In the past year, there were many hurricanes in Florida. Farmers lose a lot of money when this type of disaster happens, and that is a big loss in the economy. I form the belief from experience. I have many friends that are worried about it, so I hear about it a lot and have to do stuff to try to change it. Opportunity 2: Baby Boomers Aren't Retiring https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666 People are being forced to retire late because of the recession. People today want to find jobs or study something that will give them a lot of mon...

Identifying Local Opportunities

Title of the article: FWC issues caution about active alligators Link to the article:  https://www.gainesville.com/news/20180622/fwc-issues-caution-about-active-alligators The article talks about the problem with alligators in Florida. As everyone knows, Florida has a lot of alligators everywhere, so people are worried that when the alligators are outside the water, they can attack them. The problem is that there is nothing much that people can do to defend themselves if the alligators decide to attack the people near them. The problem is with people that see or live near a place with alligators. Forming An Opportunity Belief

Beginning point: I believe that Gainesville does not have a Brazilian restaurant. Describe your belief: Gainesville has a lot of Brazilian people living there, but there isn't one Brazilian restaurant. The closest Brazilian restaurant is in Ocala, so it is a 45 minutes drive. Sometimes for some people, it is hard for them to adapt to eat American food, and they usually expects that there will be more choices in the US. Some people do not have a car to drive all the way to Ocala. Some people do not have that much time to go. All the Brazilian people living in Gainesville have that need, and also the people that really like Brazilian food. The need is been here for a while now. People usually cook Brazilian food at home, if they can find where to buy it, that is the only way to meet their needs. I am 100% sure that this opportunity exists. Questions: When did you become aware of the need? Do you experience the need all the time or only sometimes? How long have you had the need? H...

Entrepreneurship Story

Image
The first time I was exposed to entrepreneurship was in my senior year in high school. I decided to start a Bible study in high school. Everything started because a group of friends wanted to have it and my high school did not provide anything like that. I found a place where we use to meet every Saturday. Everything started with 3 people and it ended up with 7 people. It was definitely a great experience. I enrolled in ENT 3003 because it is a requirement for my major, but I really hope that I can learn more about entrepreneurship.

Bug List

In the morning, the line at Chick fil a is really long because there are only 3 people working Probably many people do not want to work early in the morning or low pay. Classes every morning at 8:30 am I do not have control over my tutoring and classes schedule. The buses from dorm to class take more than 10 minutes to come. There are not enough buses, and the buses are not spread out enough. My 8:30 am class teacher is always late by about 3 to 5 minutes. Previous class before.  Rude workers at Grab and Go for athletes. One particularly worker overworked and is probably underpaid The Wi-Fi is horrible on campus, it is slow and it disconnects easily.  There are so many people using it at the same time. Women’s basketball locker room is always freezing and the water is cold. They want to keep the players awake to watch film. Loud friends when I want to sleep.
