Forming An Opportunity Belief

Beginning point: I believe that Gainesville does not have a Brazilian restaurant.

Describe your belief: Gainesville has a lot of Brazilian people living there, but there isn't one Brazilian restaurant. The closest Brazilian restaurant is in Ocala, so it is a 45 minutes drive. Sometimes for some people, it is hard for them to adapt to eat American food, and they usually expects that there will be more choices in the US. Some people do not have a car to drive all the way to Ocala. Some people do not have that much time to go. All the Brazilian people living in Gainesville have that need, and also the people that really like Brazilian food. The need is been here for a while now. People usually cook Brazilian food at home, if they can find where to buy it, that is the only way to meet their needs. I am 100% sure that this opportunity exists.

Questions:
When did you become aware of the need? Do you experience the need all the time or only sometimes? How long have you had the need? How are you currently addressing your needs? How satisfied are you with the solution?

Interview 1: Brazilian people in Gainesville
I became aware of the need as soon as I got to Gainesville and I really wanted to eat some Brazilian food, but I could not find any restaurants close. I experience the need all the time because I just moved to Gainesville, so I used to eat Brazilian food every day, but now that I cannot eat every day, I really wish I could, so I experience the need all the time. I have had the need since I got in Gainesville, it's been 4 months. The only way that I am currently addressing my needs is by cooking at home. Fortunately, I can find some of the same food in the stores, so I cook at home whenever I can. I am not really satisfied with the solution because it is not every day that I have time to cook at home, so sometimes I have to wait weeks until I have time to go shopping and cook at home.

Interview 2: Brazilian people in Gainesville
I became aware of the need when I was craving Brazilian food one day and I could not find any in Gainesville. I experience the need only sometimes when I feel like eating Brazilian food, about 1-2 times a week. I have had the need since I came to Gainesville 2 years ago. The only way that I found to address my need was to drive once or twice a week to Ocala and go to the Brazilian restaurant that they have there. I am not really satisfied with the solution because I do not really like to drive, but for now, it is better than nothing.

Interview 3: Brazilian people in Gainesville
I became aware of the need when I moved to Gainesville and I tried to take some friends out to eat Brazilian food for the first time and I could not find a restaurant near. I experience the need only sometimes, I am not really used to eat Brazilian food every day anymore. I have had the need since I became aware that there is none Brazilian restaurant in Gainesville, about 5 years ago. I could not find a way to address my needs, but every time that I go somewhere that they have a Brazilian restaurant, I try to go. I am not really satisfied with the solution, but there is nothing that I can do for that.

Reflection: I learned that there are more people with the same need, and I did not realize it. The most surprising was how many years some of those people are trying to get some Brazilian food near Gainesville. Also, I was surprised to know that there are some people that cook at home and sell to other friends, just to help them with their needs.

My entire opportunity still here. I think that there has to happen a change in Gainesville, entrepreneurs need to adapt to the customer's need. The Brazilian population in Gainesville is just growing every semester, so the need is just growing, and they are not doing anything about it.

  1. Hey Emanuely! This is an awesome idea. I think it definitely makes sense to cater to the Brazilian population of Gainesville. It's always nice when you can feel at home even when you're away from home. I also think it would be a great opportunity for American students or students from other countries to learn more about the Brazilian food culture. If we were able to implement this idea, I think it would be a big hit.

  2. Hi Emanuely,

You did a great job with this assignment! I think your post follows well with everything needed for the opportunity. Since the University of Florida is a higher ranking public school, it has a greater influx of ethnicities and different culture backgrounds. Unfortunately, the city planning didn't anticipate such an outcome! You can see how poorly structured the roads are in comparison with the building space. The city is trying to put so much together to compensate for the lack of space among an unexpected large number of people. I think you're right though, it would be great for different food places. Another thing is, that the food would probably be better if it were a mom and pop restaurant! Which might not suffice in a place like Gainesville.

  3. Hey Emanuely,
I was not aware of this issue but it is a great idea to add a Brazilian restaurant in Gainesville. I would imagine that the University of Florida would have students from all over the world which should mean we would have food from all over the world. I think it would add a little more food diversity and would improve Gainesvilles food options.
